Microwave plasma technology company 6K (formerly Amastan) has announced that its AM division, 6K Additive, has commissioned the first two commercial UniMelt systems for the production of metal powders. The systems, which will be in operation at the company’s 40,000 square foot manufacturing plant in Bugettstown, PA, are capable of producing 100 tons of powder per year.
MT Ortho, an Italian company with decades of experience in the traditional prostheses market, was also among the first to truly embrace the potential of 3D printing for prosthetic production. The company’s journey with 3D printing began in 2014, when it acquired two GE Additive Arcam Electron Beam Melting (EBM) machines (obviously, at the time they were simply Arcam EBM machines), and employed Simone Di Bella, a recent engineering graduate with additive manufacturing expertise.

GSD Global, an engineering and design consultancy specializing in premium e-bikes, has teamed up with Swedish engineering company Sandvik to improve e-bike production using titanium additive manufacturing. Together, the companies have developed a 3D printed motor node, which is both significantly lighter and cheaper to produce compared to the traditionally manufactured part.

The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, but the acquisition comprised of Made In Space and Made In Space Europe, the original company’s sister company based in Luxembourg.
Australian metal additive manufacturing company Titomic is changing up its Board of Directors, with the announcement that its current Chairman, Philip Vafiadis, is retiring. Titomic Founder Jeff Lang has been appointed as Interim Executive Chairman, while the company has also added two new members to its Board of Directors: Dag W.R. Stromme and Humphrey Nolan.
