About Project

Here is a set of cartoon mini figures designed by the student. She intended to turn the ladies of the Tang Dynasty into fashion toys for the promotion of ancient Chinese culture. To cut the cost, she offered to polish and paint the miniatures by herself.

Solution

  • Step 1: The client builds the models with Nomad Sculpt after she draws some drafts with reference to some old paintings of ladies in the Tang Dynasty. She extracts the feathers of the garments and makeup, and cartoonize the figures.
  • Step 2: Examine the STL file and communicate with our client about her requirements. After both confirm the size, structure, material and finishing, we input the 3D models into the slicing software and add support structures.
  • Step 2: If you don’t like the rough surface finish of FDM printed objects, SLA will be the better choice. SLA 3D printing is known for its fine features, smooth surface finish, ultimate part precision, and accuracy. SLA Generic Resin is an cost-effective material.
  • Step 3: Take out the print and wash them with IPA to remove excess materials. Post-cure the parts with UV and remove the bumps with a grater.
  • Step 4: The client is willing to do the rest post-processing work by herself such as polishing the figures with 600-800 grit sandpaper and hand painting. Her experience is to cover the masking tape tightly, spray the large color blocks first, and then use a fine brush to paint the details, then spray with clear acrylic oil after the models fully get dry.
