About Project

Check out this stunning sculpture! At first glance, you might mistake it for a solid cast bronze masterpiece from a
high-end gallery. In reality, it鈥檚 a brilliant showcase of how FacFox聽combines cutting-edge 3D printing with traditional finishing techniques to create something truly unique.

The Craft Behind the Curve

This piece started as a high-resolution Resin 3D print. If you look closely at the macro shots, you can still spot the unpolished layer lines and support marks. Rather than
hiding them, we鈥檝e embraced them鈥攖hey provide a “funny,” organic texture that mimics the hand-carved feel oftraditional clay or wax models.

To achieve that heavy, metallic soul, the resin was electroplated with genuine copper. This adds real weight and a cold-to-the-touch metallic surface. Finally, an antique green patina聽was hand-painted over the copper to give it that timeless, weathered look of ancient bronze.

Why Choose FacFox?

Why spend a fortune on DMLS (Direct Metal Laser Sintering) for decorative pieces? Our Resin + Electroplating聽technique offers:

  • Budget-Friendly:聽Save significantly compared to full metal 3D printing.
  • Authentic Texture:聽Retain the unmistakable luster and weight of real metal.
  • Detail-Oriented:聽High-resolution resin captures every muscle and curve.

Whether you’re an artist looking to prototype or a collector wanting a bespoke centerpiece, FacFox delivers industrial
quality with an artisan’s touch.

Challenge

When printing hollow resin figures, we typically drill drainage holes to allow excess resin to flow out. However, for a piece destined for electroplating, the mending process is critical:

  • The Challenge: Holes must be perfectly sealed and sanded before plating. If any electrolyte or resin leaks during the process, it can ruin the metallic bond.
  • The Result:聽Seamless integration that maintains the structural integrity and aesthetic flow of the sculpture.

Solution

  • Step 1: The digital model was materialized using high-resolution resin 3D printing.
  • Step 2: Excess liquid resin was drained through strategically placed holes, which were subsequently mended and sanded.
  • Step 3: The resin surface was chemically treated to become conductive for the plating process.
  • Step 4: A thick layer of genuine copper was electroplated onto the sculpture in an acid bath.
  • Step 5: An oxidizing solution was applied to the copper surface to induce a natural green patina.
  • Step 6: The finished piece was sealed to preserve the aged aesthetic and prevent further oxidation.
