About Project
This is Honey Bear, a radiant 0.3-meter-tall sculpture designed by the talented artist @digital_go_mad. Blending playful character design with high-concept material aesthetics, Honey Bear brings together warmth, transparency, and a soft but bold presence that lights up any space-both literally and emotionally.
Its form is irresistibly endearing: large rounded ears, a simplified cartoon silhouette, and a proud, almost protective stance. But what truly makes this bear magical is how it interacts with light.
Honey Bear was 3D printed in clear resin and hollowed, giving it an inner glow and lightness that enhances its visual impact. The surface is then expertly painted on the outside in transparent orange and solid white, creating dynamic visual layers-some parts shimmer like molten honey, while others remain softly opaque. This contrast between clear and solid paint enhances the bear's depth and expressiveness.
To finish, the entire sculpture is coated with clear acrylic oil, producing a smooth, glassy shine that magnifies reflections and protects the surface. Under natural light, Honey Bear becomes almost luminous-its orange areas glow warmly, while its white parts offer a clean visual balance.
Engineering Meets Art: A Practical Note
During transport in hot weather, some fine cracks appeared in the painted surface due to internal heat buildup-a common issue in sealed, hollow resin structures. To prevent this in future editions, our engineers suggest adding discreet air holes at the base. These help balance internal air pressure and temperature changes, reducing stress on the paint and protecting the artwork during travel or display in varying environments.

Solution
- Step 1: 3D Modeling. The digital model of Honey Bear was created by the artist @digital_go_mad. The design featured a hollow structure to reduce material weight and enhance light transmission.
- Step 2: File Preparation. The 3D file was optimized for printing, including the addition of internal supports and wall thickness adjustments suitable for clear resin printing. The model was checked for watertightness and errors before slicing.
- Step 3: 3D Printing. The sculpture was printed using high-resolution clear resin on an industrial SLA (Stereolithography) 3D printer. The print was completed in multiple sections due to its 0.3-meter height and assembled afterward.
- Step 4: Post-Processing. Once printing was complete, all support structures were carefully removed. The parts were washed in isopropyl alcohol to remove excess resin and fully cured under UV light to solidify the surface.
- Step 5: Assembly. Individual parts were aligned and bonded together with industrial-grade resin adhesive. Joints were smoothed and sanded to ensure a seamless appearance.
- Step 6: Surface Preparation. The entire surface was finely sanded and polished to remove any print lines and achieve optimal clarity on the transparent areas.
- Step 7: Painting. The exterior of the bear was hand-painted-transparent orange was applied to selected areas to enhance its glowing effect, while solid white paint was used on other parts to provide contrast and visual balance.
- Step 8: Coating. After the paint was fully dried, the entire sculpture was coated with a layer of clear acrylic oil. This added a protective glossy finish and further enhanced the bear’s reflective and translucent properties.
