Sigma Labs, an OTCQB listed provider of quality assurance software under the PrintRite3D brand has received a contract from Solar Turbines Incorporated, a subsidiary of Caterpillar located in San Diego, California. Solar Turbines will implement Sigma Labs’ In-Process Quality Assurance™ (IPQA®) technology for the production of gas turbine components using metal additive manufacturing. The division makes mid-size industrial turbines for use in electric power generation, gas compression, and pumping systems. Sigma Labs will initially install its PrintRite3D software on a 3D Systems’ ProX300 machine, with the potential for multiple system orders as the company ramps up to full serial production.
At a time when the planet seems ever more divided, it’s amazing to visit a place like Gulliver’s Gate and be reminded that we all share one world. Gulliver’s Gate is one of the most ambitious attractions to ever land in New York City, a $40 million extravaganza that allows visitors to travel the globe without leaving Times Square, made possible by painstaking artisan work with some help from digital manufacturing. Latin America, Asia, the Middle East, Russia, and Europe are all here in incredibly detailed miniature. And don’t let that word “miniature” fool you—Gulliver’s Gate feels like it covers acres, stretching a full city block with the wonders of the world.

Siemens and Materialise have integrated additive manufacturing (AM) technology from Materialise into Siemens NX software, streamlining the design to manufacturing process for the rapidly growing universe of products being produced using AM (a.k.a. 3D printing). The new solution leverages proven Materialise technology to enable NX computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering (CAD/CAM/CAE) software to accurately and completely prepare CAD models for powder bed fusion and material jetting 3D printing processes. As a result, the time necessary to go from a completed product design to a fully 3D printed part could be reduced by 30 percent or more. A partnership agreement between the two companies, announced by Materialise on January 6, 2017, enables Siemens’ product lifecycle management (PLM) software business to sell the integrated solution through its global sales channels.
MecSoft Corporation, a developer of industry leading CAD/CAM software solutions, has announced the availability of Rhino3DPRINT 2017 and Visual3DPRINT 2017, the latest versions of MecSoft’s 3D printing solution for the Rhinoceros NURBS modeler and MecSoft’s VisualCAD modeler.
