Carl Robert Deckard, inventor of SLS, dies at 58 AM Industry

Carl Robert Deckard, the inventor known in the additive manufacturing for inventing and commercializing selective laser sintering technology, passed away on December 23, 2019. Along with the original SLS patent, Carl held 27 patents and was profiled by Fortune magazine as one of five modern technology pioneers, inducted into the Manufacturing Hall of Fame by Industry Week, and named a Master of Manufacturing by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

Aleph Objects opens European HQ in Rotterdam AM Industry

Aleph Objects, Inc., manufacturer of LulzBot desktop 3D printers, announced its expansion into the European market this week with the opening of its European headquarters in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The expansion will enable the company to address the specific needs of European customers and resellers. The company has also established a new holding company for its European operations, Aleph Objects Europe Holding B.V.

Industry mourns American additive manufacturing pioneer David Tait AM Industry

David Michael Tait, general manager of voxeljet America, passed away this week, after an extended illness, at the age of 63 years. He was surrounded by his loving wife and children. Mr. Tait was a pioneer of the global and in particular the American, additive manufacturing industry. He started three separate companies and guided each one to improved sales and profits in every year of operation. He also received numerous customer citations for excellence award including Textron Marine & Land Systems, L-3 Communications and Formtech Industries.
