SILCA is further expanding its line of titanium 3D printed products with the Chisela – a sleek computer mount for Wahoo and Garmin bike computers. It leverages aerodynamic development, 3D printing, and state-of-the-art ceramic coating for the cleanest airflow possible, and is still lightweight and strong.
The Chisela features a unique ‘T-Tray’ mounting system inspired by the T-shaped underfloor of an F1 race car. According to SILCA, this allows for quick-release style attachment of lights or cameras and offers more versatility for those who need it. In addition to this, the T-Tray system adds virtually no additional weight and has no aerodynamic penalty as a result of its added functionality.
Manufacturing on Demand
Chisela offers two adjustable sizes, standard and wide, and fits almost every handlebar stem with front-facing bolts. Additional Chisela designs have also been developed to accommodate integrated stems/handlebar brands, like Madone, Cervélo, Fizik, 3T, Specialized, and Black Inc. There is also the Metron FSA 5D/6D, a custom option for those riding like the EF Pro Cycling team.
3D printing enabled SILCA to remove traditional manufacturing barriers and allowed for unique, gyroid/hollow geometries inside the form to provide the strong infrastructure needed to handle the load for the computer and accessory mount. Adding to the design and durability, SILCA coats Chisela in Cerakote black – a ceramic coating for use in aerospace, military, and biomedical applications. This high-performance ceramic coating increases abrasion resistance by more than 100 times while increasing corrosion resistance more than 1000 times over traditional metal finishes and paint coatings.
The specifications of the Chisela include a weight of 27-32g, 3-6w Aero savings, a black Cerakote finish, is 6 – 12x stronger than aluminum, and is made in the USA. The Chisela includes a removable light mount, Garmin and Wahoo pucks, and 2 x 6Al/4V Ti M5 bolts (2g each).
