COBOD releases new generation BOD3 construction 3D printer Construction 3D Printing

COBOD, via its CEO Henrik Lund-Nielsen, has officially presented the next-generation BOD3 Construction 3D Printer, the company’s most advanced 3D printing system to date, developed meticulously over the past few years.

The new BOD3 construction 3D printer from COBOD.

The BOD3 maintains the high-quality materials and components used in the BOD2, currently the world’s best-selling 3D construction printer. Like its predecessor, the BOD3 is a modular system, assembled from 2.5-meter steel modules that allow customization based on customer needs. However, unlike the BOD2, which requires Z-axis extensions for lengthening, the BOD3 introduces ground-based track modules along the length direction, eliminating the need for additional Z-axis components. This innovation not only enhances the printer’s cost-effectiveness, especially for larger-scale projects but also significantly improves its efficiency on construction sites.

A key feature of the BOD3 is its ability to move seamlessly from one building to another on the same construction site with zero setup time. After printing one building, the tracks from that site can be easily relocated to extend the printer for the next structure, allowing for continuous, uninterrupted construction across an entire site without downtime. This feature is particularly advantageous for projects involving multiple buildings, as it enables the BOD3 to print different structures consecutively without any delays.

COBOD’s commitment to research and development, which began in 2017 when the company built Europe’s first 3D printed building, has driven the innovations seen in the BOD3. Central to this vision of smarter, more automated construction is the incorporation of further advancements, such as the Universal X-Carriage Box. Currently, this box holds the printhead, but it is designed to accommodate additional tools in the future, such as casting or insulation tools. The system allows for rapid tool changes, all managed from a new centralized operational stand.

With the launch of the BOD3, COBOD is not merely introducing a new 3D printing system; it is continuing in its mission to sell machines and set the stage for the future of automated construction, reaffirming its dedication to pushing the boundaries of innovation the field of concrete 3D printing hardware technology.
