British Inventors Project finalist Buzz Technology are showcasing their vision for two modular concepts which could find their way into future smartphones. Both 3D printed smartphone accessory prototype solutions were showcased at the Gadget Show LIVE! in Birmingham, UK. DRONE-IN-A-PHONE is a tethered microdrone that folds up and fits into a camera case. By placing the battery into the smartphone case, and using a folding mechanism, Buzz Technology’s Senake Atureliya and his team have managed to reduce the size and weight of the drone, thus making it pocket-size. Flight times are significantly increased and the mini drone is able to withstand strong winds.

This is going to be a year of transition for 3D printing, a year that will see many big names try to make their mark, including HP. These giants, however, will have to compete with current industry leader Stratasys, which is going to put up a fight to lead the next generation of 3D printing, judging by the latest launch of the J750 6+1 materials, full color, polyjet 3D printing system.
When you consider which media ride the hype and which ones can create it, Motherboard, Vice’s tech website, certainly belongs to the second type. The same is true about knowing when to stop (riding the hype) and an article by Motherboard shows that that time has come for consumer 3D printing.
It was just a matter of time as many tech giants, such as Google, Apple and Microsoft are already investing heavily in 3D printing technologies. Now Facebook has also joined the crowd with a new service that will enable anyone to 3D print a statuette of any of their active Facebook friends.

It is not our intention to compare ourselves to Caravaggio. It would only be presumptuous, to say the least. However, we would like to explain the tremendous and demanding work of modelling (and not just that!) that was carried out to replicate the Flagellation of Christ in 3D and how this goes a long way to demonstrate that 3D printed art is coming of age.
