I didn’t mind Prometheus, in fact I enjoyed every single Aliens movie, some more some less. Sure, James Cameron’s Aliens remains my favorite, however the latest teaser for the upcoming Alien: Covenant, the sixth in the franchise, makes me really hope for the best. Not just because it clearly does a “process-placement” operation that 3D printing benefits from, but also because it clearly depicts the direction that manufacturing – including biological manufacturing – is taking and how 3D printing is an absolutely integral part of that.
Oxford Performance Materials, Inc. (OPM), a leader in advanced materials science and high performance additive manufacturing (HPAM), today announced that it has received a Notice of Decision to Grant a Patent from the European Patent Office (EPO) for OPM’s invention on a “Customized Implant for Bone Replacement”, which leverages its OsteoFab implant manufacturing process, originally filed on December 5, 2011. The patent, which took effect on December 21, 2016, will be valid until August 7, 2029, and enables OPM to apply its high-performance additive manufacturing process to 3D print customized implants for bone replacement.
Dubai-based construction technologies firm, Cazza, has announced plans to build the world’s first 3D printed skyscraper. The firm will be able to 3D print high rises using a new construction technique called ‘crane printing’, similar to that used by Apic Cor to digitally build a small house in Russia last month.
