3D printing provider Essentium, Inc. has come out with a line of all-in-one 3D printing adhesives for its portfolio of High Speed Extrusion (HSE) 3D printing materials. The adhesives were developed in collaboration with Malta-based Thought3D, the company behind the well recognized Magigoo 3D printing bed adhesive brand.
Women in 3D Printing this week published the latest edition of its Diversity for Additive Manufacturing report, a special volume which not only focuses on gender diversity in our industry but also on the inclusion of minorities. The newly released report reckons with the issue of diversity and systemic racism, a long running and deeply embedded problem in our world, which has been in particular focus this year due to the disproportionate impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the Black Lives Matter movement. Importantly, the report positions AM within this unequal dynamic, aiming to promote diversity and inclusion in the sector as well as to highlight existing initiatives that support them.
A team from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory has invented a 3D printed absorption device made from aluminum that is capable of capturing carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel plants. The innovative device, which can also be used in other industrial processes, could help to curb global emissions of greenhouses gases like CO2 which trap heat in the atmosphere and contribute to global warming.
Bioprinting company CELLINK has entered into an agreement with the owners of Scienion AG, a German life science company focusing on precision dispensing technologies, to acquire all shares for a purchase price on cash- and debt-free basis of 80 million euros. The National Center for Additive Manufacturing Excellence (NCAME) at Auburn University in Alabama has received a $3 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which will support a two-year research project aimed at improving commercial air travel with 3D printed metal components.
Multinational conglomerate Honeywell announced this week that it has obtained the first FAA certification for a flight-critical aircraft engine component made using 3D printing. The part in question, #4/5 bearing housing, is a major structural component in the ATF3-6 turbofan engine aboard the Dassault Falcon 20G maritime patrol aircraft, commonly used by the French Navy for rescue and patrol missions. The 3D printed component is already in production and has reportedly already been installed in an in-service aircraft.
