In the additive industry we often talk about 3D printing spare parts for the aerospace and transport industries, but there is another area where on-demand spare parts could make all the difference: toys!
SHINING 3D has been working in close contact with automotive companies and motorsports teams for years to help them adopt additive manufacturing and increase productivity while reducing costs. In a recent case, SHINING 3D helped an automotive company design, produce and test a new exhaust pipe through a new phase of product development. The metal powder bed fusion (MPBF) technology from SHINING 3D, with the EP-M250 3D printer, and the high-precision OptimScan 5 blue-light 3D scanning and inspection technology were used during the process.
Fabrisonic, a specialist in solid-state metal AM, has once again teamed up with Luna Innovations, a manufacturer of medical, telecommunications, energy and defense technologies, to showcase the potential of its Ultrasonic Additive Manufacturing (UAM) process. In this particular project, the partners were enlisted by NASA to gather data from cryogenic fuel pipes for rocket test stands.
Color 3D printer manufacturer RIZE, Inc. has announced a partnership with software company Dassault Systèmes that will aim to drive the adoption of additive manufacturing. Through the collaboration, the companies will jointly offer a versatile 3D printing solution to customers in North America that will support a range of applications and services, covering prototyping, tooling and end-use production.
Chemicals company Henkel has enlisted M. Holland Company as an authorized distributor of its LOCTITE 3D printing products. M. Holland Company, a leading distributor of thermoplastic resins, will now offer its client base a wider range of 3D printing materials, including UV-curable silicone elastomeric, ultra-clear, durable, high-impact, high-temperature and other resins.
Metal AM company Velo3D is entering the Japanese market through an exclusive distribution agreement with Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corporation (TNSC), which is owned for 50% by Mitsubishi Chemical. The company, a provider of welding solutions and industrial gases, will represent Velo3D and its metal AM offering (including the Sapphire 3D printer, Flow pre-print software and Assure quality control software) in Japan.
MX3D, an Amsterdam-based metal 3D printing company, has revealed a collaboration with Japanese architecture and engineering firm Takenaka. Together, the companies designed a Structural Steel Connector, which MX3D then 3D printed using its large-scale robotic printing technology, Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM).
A team of researchers from Purdue University, Cornell University and Case Western Reserve University is drawing inspiration from bones to make stronger, more resilient 3D printed structures for buildings, aircraft and more. The researchers have recreated a specific beam structure found within natural bone that provides strength and lifelong wear resistance using 3D technologies.
