European Patent Granted for OPM’s OsteoFab 3D Printed Implants 3D Printing Processes

Oxford Performance Materials, Inc. (OPM), a leader in advanced materials science and high performance additive manufacturing (HPAM), today announced that it has received a Notice of Decision to Grant a Patent from the European Patent Office (EPO) for OPM’s invention on a “Customized Implant for Bone Replacement”, which leverages its OsteoFab implant manufacturing process, originally filed on December 5, 2011. The patent, which took effect on December 21, 2016, will be valid until August 7, 2029, and enables OPM to apply its high-performance additive manufacturing process to 3D print customized implants for bone replacement.

Stratasys Opens Enrollment for 3DHEART Clinical Study on Effects of 3D Printed Heart Models in Surgery 3D Printing Processes

Stratasys, the 3D printing and additive manufacturing solutions market leader, today announced enrollment is now open for 3DHEART, an investigator initiated trial. 3DHEART, which stands for 3D Hearts Enabling A Randomized Trial, is a randomized, single-blind clinical trial to study the use of patient-specific 3D printed models in pre-operative planning for pediatric heart surgery. Stratasys is providing in-kind support with printing of the models to be used in the trial.

Anatomik Modeling 3D Prints World’s First Custom-Made Airway Stent 3D Printing Processes

Researchers in Toulouse have successfully developed and implanted several customized, 3D printed stents that are anatomically identical to patients’ trachea and/or bronchi, offering hope to patients for whom standard prostheses are not a viable solution. This has been achieved through a collaboration between the Pulmonology Department at Toulouse University Hospital and Toulouse-based start-up company, AnatomikModeling.

Surgeons in Nova Scotia Use 3D Printed Heart Model to Rehearse Complex Procedures AM Software

After the introduction by Ottawa Hospital of an integrated 3D printing facility Canadian health facilities continue to adopt 3D printing. In Halifax, Nova Scotia, a collaboration between pediatric cardiologist Dr. Robert Chen and cardiac radiologist Dr. Deborah Thompson has resulted in the first 3D printed heart model of congenital heart disease (CHD) from IWK radiology images. The model allows cardiac surgeons to rehearse surgical management of complex anatomy before entering the operating room.
