A paper that was just submitted to the Cornell University Library describes how to obtain accurate 3D body models and texture of arbitrary people from a single, monocular video in which a person is moving. The paper was authored by Thiemo Alldieck, Marcus Magnor, Weipeng Xu, Christian Theobalt and Gerard Pons-Moll; it will be presented at the upcoming Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition conference in Salt Lake City.
The 3MF Consortium (3MF) ratified and released its Beam Lattice Specification Extension to its 3MF Core Specification today. The 3MF Beam Lattice extension is a new method for storing and transferring lattice-type geometry information. By providing support for beam lattices, 3MF solves a significant interoperability issue for the additive manufacturing industry and provides an elegant solution to a problem that is not easily addressed in other file formats. The benefits of using 3MF’s Beam Lattice Extension in additive manufacturing are significant and broad and include improved design flexibility, lower material costs and reduced production time.
Released in November 2017, the ProX SLS 6100 is 3D Systems’ latest Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) additive manufacturing system. The professional-grade 3D printer, introduced alongside a batch of new DuraForm ProX SLS materials, was built to meet demands in the manufacturing of functional polymer prototypes and low-volume production parts.
Stratasys, the current AM market leader, took a new “step” in ensuring its leadership will endure by officially unveiling the spin-off of its Selective Toner Electrophotographic Process (STEP) technology and forming of Evolve Additive Solutions.
Amazon is acquiring a majority stake in Shapeways, a world-leading provider of B2B and B2C 3D printing services to small, independent ventures to expand services around the world*
The Chaos Core Tech YouTube channel – that created the 3D printed Iron Giant – is run by Garrett, a full time programmer, who loves to make things in downtime. He makes 3D models and 3D print them out, then his wife, Chelsey, paints them and makes them look amazing. Thorough his video he shares his experience along with the files he creates.
Raise3D is launching the Pro Series: a new series of printers developed with industrial grade components, to be smoothly implemented in Flexible Manufacturing solutions based on desktop 3D printing systems. The Raise3D Pro2 series systems look very similar to the N2 series, but they are two entirely different grades of printers.
MachineWorks Ltd, creator of the Polygonica Polygonal Modelling Software Engine, is introducing new solutions for solving difficult 3D scanning problems such as complex hole filling in a point cloud of the 3D object. 3D scanners often produce 3D models with missing regions or with holes. Polygonica’s latest function addresses hole filling by recapturing the original geometry of the 3D data thanks to clever geometry manipulation.
Ivano Corsini founded 3D4STEEL together with business partner Gabriele Carloni, with the goal of making steel 3D printing truly accessible to all. For this reason, the company chose to focus specifically on the most used metal, steel and the wide family of steel alloys. Not only does 3D4STEEL provide a range of metal 3D printers specifically optimized for steel, but it also intends to provide customers with a fully customized service solution. This comprehensive plan is based on its open, highly optimized AM systems for production and 3D4YOU, a tailor-made consultancy and support program that will make implementing 3D printing much smoother than it is today.
