MTC signs MoU with Lucideon Limited to advance ceramics AM Additive Manufacturing

The National Centre for Additive Manufacturing at the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) in Coventry, England has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Lucideon Limited, a materials consultancy based in Stoke-on-Trent. The agreement establishes a framework through which MTC and Lucideon will advance ceramic additive manufacturing technologies and associated applications.

Italian supercar manufacturer Ferrari has started to produce respirator valves and fittings for protective masks at its Maranello plant, as one of its initiatives in support of health workers treating coronavirus patients. The department where car prototypes are usually built is producing these thermoplastic components using additive manufacturing technology, as Ferrari joins 3D printing effort to fight COVID-19 globally.

America Makes and the importance of a centralized COVID-19 3D printing response AM Industry

As the national institute for additive manufacturing in the United States, America Makes has been in a somewhat unique position throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. With over 200 members from the additive industry and with connections to other government agencies, the group has taken it upon itself to bridge the manufacturing world with healthcare providers in this time of need. Working in collaboration with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), America Makes has created an online repository of 3D printable designs that address a need for PPE and other products in healthcare settings.
