Bugatti Refines Perfection with Ultra-Optimized Bolide 3D Printed Parts

Imagine ultra-lightweight components that are as strong as a reinforced concrete column. Now, as Volkswagen reports in its new blog, this is possible, thanks to technology-led by Bugatti engineers. The newly developed 3D printed pushrod – a pressure-loaded coupling rod in the chassis area – weighs just 100 grams and can transmit forces of up to 3.5 tonnes. The hollow titanium structure with an internal supporting arch gives incredible strength and is yet another AM breakthrough among several Bolide 3D printed parts recently introduced by Bugatti.

Aurora Labs to Develop Instructional Guide for 3D Printed Medical Devices

Australian metal 3D printer manufacturer Aurora Labs has agreed to develop designs, specifications and parameters for the 3D printing of titanium medical implants. Developed under partnership with the University of Western Australia (UWA) and Royal Perth Hospital (RPH), the parameters will come in the form of an instructional guide for using an Aurora Labs 3D printer to manufacture medical implants.

Renishaw 3D Printed Medical Device Breaks Ground in Parkinson’s Drug Trial

Renishaw 3D Printed Medical Device Breaks Ground in Parkinson’s Drug Trial

Renishaw additive manufacturing has played a pivotal role in the recent clinical trial of an experimental treatment for Parkinson’s Disease. Documented in a two part-series produced by the BBC titled The Parkinson’s Drug Trial: A Miracle Cure? this trial includes the novel development of 3D printed medical device capable of delivering drugs directly to affected parts of the brain. After 40-80 weeks in-situ, the implants have become part of a potentially landmark advance in the treatment of this long-term degenerative disorder.

Racing with Sauber into the Future of Additive Production

Racing with Sauber into the Future of Additive Production

Swiss motorsport company Sauber is a historic team in the Formula 1 circuit, where it has been competing since 1993. The intensive implementation of AM at Sauber since the early 2000s is not the only reason why the company is now playing such a relevant role in the AM industry: Sauber Engineering was established to leverage the team’s unique engineering know-how and provide design and production services using Additive Industries’ MetalFAB1 metal 3D printers. Last year this led to the production of over 22,000 metal laser PBF printed parts; and these are just the start.

LimaCorporate Breaks Ground for First On-site Hospital 3D Printing Facility

Global medical device company LimaCorporate has confirmed that it has started construction of its forthcoming on-site 3D printing facility at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York. First confirmed in January this year, the partners held a ground breaking ceremony at the site at the end of May. Building works are scheduled for completion by 2020, and the center itself is expected to be in operation early in the same year.

Sturdy Cycles works with RAM3D on custom titanium bicycles Consumer Products

Sturdy Cycles Works with RAM3D on Custom Titanium Bicycles

Bicycles were one of the first consumer products to embrace 3D printing, with dozens of examples of both concept models, one-offs and actual production already underway. One reason is that personalization and weight-optimization play a big role in bicycling; another (related) is that two key materials for bicycles are carbon fiber composites and titanium, which are also key materials in 3D printing. For Tom Sturdy of Sturdy Cycles in Somerset, UK, titanium is it and he turned to AM service RAM3D to 3D print it.
