Metal powder injection molding technology principle
Metal injection molding (MIM) is a near-net forming process suitable for the production of small, three-dimensional complex shapes and products with special performance requirements. This technology is a new type of powder metallurgy near net shape forming technology which is formed by introducing modern plastic injection molding technology into the field of powder metallurgy. The basic technological process is as follows: a variety of fine metal powders (generally less than 20 μm) are made into a rheologically-characteristic feed with a predetermined binder and injected into the mold cavity through an injection machine to form a part blank. After removing the binder and sintering at high temperature, various metal parts can be obtained. Metal injection molding is suitable for high-volume manufacturing, and the product manufacturing cost is low. In a long period of time in the future, this technology will become more advanced manufacturing technology with 3D printing.
