TreeD Releases Polypropylene Filament for Injection Molded Strength Parts 3D Printing Processes

There are a number of advantages that accompany the use of 3D printing technology, from cost effectiveness to faster production times. But one area that the technology slightly lacks is in material functionality, which oftentimes fails to meet the strength and resilience of the injection molding process. To alleviate this glaring issue, the Italian filament producer TreeD has created their new P-LENE polypropylene filament.

3D bioprinted human pancreas may someday be utilized in transplants 3D Printing Processes

Celprogen Inc., a leader in the Stem Cell Research and Therapeutics industry for stem cell research since 2002, successfully finished manufacturing of a 3D bioprinted human pancreas from flexible Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) material scaffold that was populated with adult human pancreatic stem cells. These 3D printed human pancreases were coated and seeded with human adult pancreatic stem cells. The 3D pancreas scaffold was populated with three T225 human Pancreatic Stem Cells 36097-24-T225, and with human adult pancreatic cells 3002-04-T225; the scaffold was coated with ECM prior to seeding the cells. This flexible PLA scaffold allows the seeded pancreatic stem cells to potentially differentiate into an adult functional pancreas. The 3D print was reduced from an adult 18 year old pancreas to approximately 1/5 its original size.

Pjotr Presents Spica Virginis, the Titanium 3D Printed Fountain Pen and Nib 3D Printing Processes

Dutch designer and technologist Pjotr (aka Rein van der Mast) is about to disrupt how fountain pens are made. Instead of relying on proven technology like turning, a couple of years ago he started 3D printing titanium fountain pens and now he also 3D prints its fully functional nib. This enables him to create complex design features and even mechanical assemblies in a single 3D print.
