The Port of Rotterdam’s Additive Manufacturing Fieldlab (RAMLAB) and Autodesk have revealed the first pilot component as they pioneer the use of additive manufacturing in the maritime industry. A ship’s propeller was made using a hybrid manufacturing process combining wire and arc additive manufacturing using industrial robotic arms and subtractive machining and grinding techniques.
After announcing it late last year and establishing high profile partnership in the AM industry, enterprise software global leader SAP launched SAP Distributed Manufacturing, a new application resulting from its co-innovation with customers and service providers to make 3D printing a seamless part of digital manufacturing.
For their graduation project at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland, design students Zuzanna Gronowicz and Barbara Motylinska, visualised their concept for a customisable 3D printed shoe. They’re made from eco-friendly materials and can be ordered using an app. The two young designers used a ZMorph 2.0 SX multitool 3D printer to create prototypes and plan the entire production pipeline.
Avi Reichental, a very well known executive figure in the 3D printing industry will be joining the Board of Directors at Nano Dimension, the NASDAQ listed current technological leader in 3D printed electronics. Reichental served as president, chief executive officer and director at 3D Systems for more than a decade. Under his leadership, 3D Systems emerged as a formidable global 3D-printing provider, growing revenue by more than six-fold and increasing market valuation by more than twelve-fold, before running into rough times – as most other publicly traded 3D printing companies – toward the end of his tenure.

Stratasys, the 3D printing and additive manufacturing solutions company, today announced that the Mobility Division of global engineering and technology solutions leader, Siemens, is pioneering the use of Stratasys FDM 3D printing technology by producing customized final production parts for German transport services provider, Stadtwerke Ulm/Neu Ulm (SWU) Verkehr GmbH.
GE Additive, the division of General Electric which is focusing specifically on developing and industrializing AM technologies, is establishing a “Customer Experience Center” in Munich, Germany – the first of several GE Additive centers (they are 18 already) planned worldwide to accelerate the use of additive manufacturing.
