Australian metals and materials manufacturing company Titomic Limited recently announced a Memorandum of Understanding with Japanese companies Osaka Titanium technologies Co. Ltd. (OTC) and Marubeni Corporation, to distribute Titomic Kinetic Fusion (TKF) systems in Japan and South Korea and supply aerospace-grade gas-atomized titanium metal powders globally.
Nexxt Spine, an Indiana-based medical device manufacturer, aims to scale up its spinal implant production with the adoption of its fourth and fifth Concept Laser Mlab 100R 3D printers from GE Additive. The company, which began using 3D printing just two years ago, sees the technology as the way forward for implant production.
Concr3de, a Dutch company specializing in 3D printing stone, is offering up its additive technology for the restoration of Paris’ Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral. In fact, the company has proposed using its technology to quite literally rebuild damaged parts of the cathedral from the ashes of Notre-Dame.
The joint project IDAM, which was recently kicked off in Munich, is intended to pave the way for additive manufacturing to enter automotive series production. Specifically, the project partners – consisting of SMEs, large companies and research institutions – will transfer metallic 3D printing into an industrialized and highly automated series process in the automotive industry.
Spanish sustainable infrastructure company Acciona recently teamed up with Spain’s National Archaeological Museum (MAN) to 3D print a full-scale replica of the San Pedro de las Dueñas Arch, built as part of the eponymous monastery in the 12th century. The 3D printed arch, placed in the museum garden, is said to be the first piece of architectural cultural heritage to be replicated using concrete 3D printing.
German chemicals company Henkel Corporation is expanding its novel Recycling Program for its additive manufacturing customers. The program, established in collaboration with TerraCycle, will enable Henkel clients to easily recycle 3D printing materials and adhesives from its Loctite brands, pushing sustainable 3D printing further ahead.
American whiskey maker Bulleit is raising the bar for fancy cocktails at the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival. At the event, Bulleit will present its latest Frontier Works project, the “Bulleit 3D Printed Frontier Lounge,” where it will serve 3D printed cocktails to a bunch of lucky (and of-age) invitees.
PyroGenesis Canada Inc., a company specializing in the production of plasma atomized metal powder, plasma waste-to-energy systems and plasma torch products, has announced the establishment of a new spin-off focused on additive manufacturing powders. The spin-off, dubbed PyroGenesis Additive, was recently approved by the Montreal-based company’s Board of Directors.
Magura, a large manufacturer of bicycle parts and components, has been working with DH World Champion Loic Bruni to develop perfect lever ergonomics. The conclusion they came to is that ergonomics is a completely individual matter. Now with the product program #customizeyourbrake, Magura offers end customers the possibility to adapt their lever ergonomics to their own preference with an aluminum 3D printed bike brake lever.
Electric Superbike Twente, a Dutch developer of electric motorcycles, recently teamed up with local AM company K3D to develop one of the first metal 3D printed components for the racing industry. The part in question is an electric motor cooling shell for the company’s second generation Superbike.
