A couple of weeks ago, a Dutch 3D printing startup named Concr3de came onto our radar when it demonstrated how its unique stone additive manufacturing technology could reproduce a damaged piece of Notre-Dame de Paris using materials sourced from the cathedral’s burnt and damaged structure.
3D printing company ExOne is once again teaming up with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), the biggest U.S. Department of Energy open science laboratory, to advance the process of 3D binder jetting AM. Together, the partners will work to develop new binder systems for ExOne’s sand and metal 3D printers.
Up-and-coming fashion designer Ganit Goldstein may not have had her 3D printed wearables on display at the recent Met Gala (where Zac Posen became the latest designer to use 3D printing in his work), but her designs are striking nonetheless. Aleph Objects, Inc., manufacturer of LulzBot desktop 3D printers, announced its expansion into the European market this week with the opening of its European headquarters in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The expansion will enable the company to address the specific needs of European customers and resellers. The company has also established a new holding company for its European operations, Aleph Objects Europe Holding B.V.
After 30 hours of 3D printing over four days of head-to-head competition, NASA and partner Bradley University of Peoria, Illinois, have awarded $700,000 to two teams vying to go down in history as the first 3D Printed Habitat Challenge winner. A prize of $500,000 was awarded to New York-based AI SpaceFactory. Second-place and $200,000 went to Pennsylvania State University of University Park.
Celebrities at the Met Gala stunned last night with their take on Camp and most did not disappoint. Somewhat surprisingly, the Camp theme brought in more 3D printed garments than the 2016 Met Gala’s “Fashion in an Age of Technology” theme. In any case, we’re absolutely living for it.
