ESA-led project progresses with bioprinting skin and bone in space Aerospace

Humans have long wanted to put a person on Mars, and today many steps towards achieving this decades-old goal are being taken. Things like housing, food, construction materials and medical treatments will be necessary in order for humans to exist on Mars, and researchers from space agencies and companies around the world are coming up with novel solutions to address these basic issues. NASA, for instance, recently awarded AI SpaceFactory first place in its 3D Printed Habitat Challenge for developing a 3D printed housing solution that could be viable on Mars or the Moon.

MSC Software Corporation and RMIT University partner to accelerate Additive Manufacturing in Australia AM Software

MSC Software Corporation (MSC), a global leader in computer-aided engineering (CAE) simulation software and services, signed an agreement with Melbourne-based RMIT University’s Advanced Manufacture Precinct. The agreement is especially in the area of Additive Manufacturing and pertains to the use of MSC Software’s Simufact Additive solution by the University.

If you’ve ever been lucky enough to walk the many halls of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, you’ll likely have come across the famous “The Night Watch” painting (1642) by Dutch artist Rembrandt. Actually, perhaps “come across” is the wrong term, as most people bee-line to see the canvas—not only impressive for its massive scale but also for its captivating details. Now, thanks to a project by photographer Julius Rooymans and fashion designer Hans Ubbink, there is an entirely new way to experience the famed 17th century artwork.

Titomic and FLSmidth begin production trial for 3D printed mining components AM Industry

Australian company Titomic Limited is partnering with Danish engineering company and mining equipment producer FLSmidth to explore the use of Titomic Kinetic Fusion technology (TKF) for manufacturing high-wear resistant parts for mining applications. The companies will initially collaborate through a production trial agreement to assess the potential of the TKF additive process for the mining sector.

Peak launches first fully 3D printed sneakers for under $200 Consumer Products

Chinese sportswear brand PEAK Sports Products introduced a new model of fully 3D printed sneakers – upper, midsole and outsole – in the domestic Chinese market. As leading Chinese 3D printing media Nanjixiong reports, the first 600 pairs of the new FUTURE FUSION PEAK3D sneakers were briefly available on the company’s online store, on July 5th, for 1,299 Yuan (about $190) and sold out in a matter of seconds.

Carnegie Mellon has been selected by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to lead a research team dedicated to examining new ways to build and power aircraft of the future, through NASA’s University Leadership Initiative. As part of the Transformative Aeronautics Concepts Program, Carnegie Mellon will help solve the nation’s most pressing problems in aviation.
