The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and the American College of Radiology (ACR) have announced they will be launching a new medical 3D printing clinical data registry in order to collect 3D printing data at the point of clinical care. The registry is expected to launch as a pilot program in autumn 2019 and is expected to bolster the advancement of clinical 3D printing.
Musashi Seimitsu Industry, a Japanese automotive manufacturing company, has announced a partnership with battery developer KeraCel to develop and bring-to-market 3D printed solid-state batteries for the automotive sector. As a strategic partner, Musashi will support the accelerated development of KeraCel’s additive manufacturing technology for solid-state batteries in order to scale it for high-volume production.
After successfully optimizing its design processes for aircraft and motorcycle engines in collaboration with UK-based metal AM company Renishaw, engine manufacturer Cobra Aero has decided to invest in its own AM 400 3D printer. Prior to the investment, Cobra Aero worked in close collaboration with Renishaw to learn about the company’s metal AM process.
It is a sad day for the 3D printing world, as BigRep reported that its founder, René Gurka, has passed away. The 3D printing visionary, who founded the German large-format 3D printer manufacturer in 2014, has left the additive industry too soon.
German chemical company Henkel has joined an R&D project called SYMPA in partnership with Rapid Shape GmbH, cirp GmbH and others. The project, which is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF1) and the Federal Ministry Republic of Austria Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT2), aims to develop new materials, printing methodologies and post-processing technologies for stereolithography products. The joint SYMPA project, which launched at the end of 2018, will specifically focus on developing durable SLA parts using DLP processes for the automotive industry.
Aidro Hydraulics, an Italian supplier of hydraulic equipment, has announced a new partnership with additive manufacturing company EOS. The companies will work together to accelerate the adoption of additive manufacturing technologies in the oil and gas industry, leveraging their respective expertise to this end.
Following the launch of its nTop Platform in July 2019, New York-based computational modeling software developer nTopology has gained significant momentum in the advanced manufacturing industry. Most recently, the company raised $20 million in funding, which will enable it to scale its business and offering.
Thor3D, a leading Russian manufacturer of 3D scanning equipment, is partnering with 3D Systems to resell the American AM industry leader’s 3D Geomagic software, including Geomagic Wrap, Geomagic Design X, and Geomagic Control X.
Sigma Labs, Inc., a provider of quality assurance software under the PrintRite3D brand, announced today that it will work with aerospace company Airbus to complete a Test and Evaluation Program of Sigma Labs’ new PrintRite3D version 5.0 hardware and software followed by a validation phase on a powder bed fusion printer.
Keselowski Advanced Manufacturing (KAM), the hybrid manufacturing company founded by NASCAR champion Brad Keselowski, has announced a partnership with Elementum 3D, a developer of additive manufacturing materials. Together, the companies will seek to create new opportunities in the AM industry using Elementum 3D’s innovative AM materials and KAM’s production capabilities.
