3MF Consortium releases first standardized 3D Beam Lattice Extension 3D Visualization

The 3MF Consortium (3MF) ratified and released its Beam Lattice Specification Extension to its 3MF Core Specification today. The 3MF Beam Lattice extension is a new method for storing and transferring lattice-type geometry information. By providing support for beam lattices, 3MF solves a significant interoperability issue for the additive manufacturing industry and provides an elegant solution to a problem that is not easily addressed in other file formats. The benefits of using 3MF’s Beam Lattice Extension in additive manufacturing are significant and broad and include improved design flexibility, lower material costs and reduced production time.

Hawk 3D Proto, a young though quite popular 3D product resellers in the UK, has closed its doors. We did not see that coming, as the company seemed to be one of the most active in the UK scene. Although we often met and spoke with Ben at shows, and very much appreciated his approach to the market, we regret that we never had the opportunity to actively collaborate with Hawk 3D and help the company further promote its brand and products.

SHINING 3D opens new American HQ in San Francisco AM Industry

SHINING 3D, an industry leader in 3D digitizing and printing industries, opened its new office for the Americas, as part of its plan for expansion into global markets. The new office, located at 1740 César Chávez St. Unit D. San Francisco, CA 94124, is the company’s third main office, adding to the headquarters in Hangzhou, Zhejiang and the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) office in Stuttgart, Germany, which opened last year. The San Francisco office will serve as the base of operations for SHINING 3D’s markets in North America, Central and South America.

Unlike other extra large 3D printed projects that seemed too good to be true, Joris Laarman’s 3D printed steel bridge has been completed, perfectly in line with MX3D’s project timeline. The only thing that was somewhat a letdown, was the idea that the bridge would “build itself on location” as some early animations seem to allude to. However, this is just the beginning. Laarman and the team that worked with him fine-tuned the metal deposition technology to be able to cater to the large size additive production needs of a growing range of industries.
