Askja Audio, a French developer of audio systems, has revealed how its path to offering high quality sound was heavily reliant on additive manufacturing technologies, and specifically Stratasys’ Fortus 900mc Production 3D printer. The company says 3D printing played a critical role in realizing its flagship product, the Askja Origin.
With the Formula 1 race event in Austin, Texas in full swing and drivers preparing for the actual races to begin this weekend, we were hoping for some exciting 3D printing-related news. This morning, it was the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team that delivered by announcing it was extending its partnership with Dutch 3D printing company Additive Industries.

London-based luxury watchmaker Uniform Wares recently introduced its latest collection of wristwatches, PreciDrive M-Line. What we’ve just learnt is that the sleek watch collection was actually made possible thanks to additive manufacturing. Working in collaboration with London-based manufacturer Betatype, Uniform Wares was able to design and develop a unique strap for its watch collection 3D printed from a T5 titanium alloy.
Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PSA Corporation Limited (PSA), a leading global port group, the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster (NAMIC) and 3D MetalForge Pte Ltd. The agreement, signed at the 6th Global AM Summit at the Changi Exposition Centre, initiates a joint effort to establish the world’s first on-site additive manufacturing production facility specifically for port applications.
ICON, a Texas-based construction tech company that made headlines earlier this year for its low-cost 3D printed home, has announced that it has raised a whopping $9 million in funding. The money, raised through a seed round led by Oakhouse Partners, will enable ICON to continue its mission of transforming construction using new technologies with the ultimakte goal of making housing more affordable, durable and sustainable.

It’s been a bit of a wild ride for Russian company 3D Bioprinting Solutions this past week, but things seems to be on the upswing now. Late last week, Sputnik News reported that the first 3D bioprinter bound for space was destroyed after the Soyuz spacecraft it was cargo on crashed during a liftoff malfunction. In the aftermath of the disappointing crash, 3D Bioprinting Solutions says it is now preparing to send a duplicate machine to the ISS.
