Celebrities at the Met Gala stunned last night with their take on Camp and most did not disappoint. Somewhat surprisingly, the Camp theme brought in more 3D printed garments than the 2016 Met Gala’s “Fashion in an Age of Technology” theme. In any case, we’re absolutely living for it.
GKN Powder Metallurgy today announced the opening of its new North American Powder Metallurgy Headquarters and Additive Manufacturing Customer Center. The new facility, located in Auburn Hills, Michigan, spans 38,260 square feet and brings together over 80 employees from GKN Powder Metallurgy’s three businesses: Hoeganaes, GKN Sinter Metals and GKN Additive.
Additive manufacturing workflow automation software company AMFG has announced a new update to its software solution to ease the order handling process for 3D printing service bureaus and OEMs. The new Request and Ordering Portal for AMFG’s platform offers users a customizable solution for automating order requests and handling for 3D printed parts.
Rob Gorham, the Executive Director at America Makes, the U.S.’ National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, has announced he will be stepping down from his position as of May 31, 2019. John Wilczynski, the current Technology Director at America Makes, will assume the position of Executive Director effective June 1, 2019.
Australian metal 3D printing company Aurora Labs has announced the launch of the RMP1 Beta Printer, a fully operational pre-production 3D printer. The launch of the beta 3D printer takes Aurora Labs one step closer to commercialization goal. The next big step will be to gather valuable feedback from early customers for its metal RMP1 production 3D printer, which is expected to be released later this year.
3D printer manufacturer Aleph Objects has expanded its hardware offering for the second time this year with the release of the new LulzBot TAZ Workhorse Edition 3D printer. The new machine is the next-generation iteration of its well-reviewed LulzBot TAZ 6 3D printer. Improvements to the new desktop 3D printer include a larger build volume, faster print speeds and improved print accuracy.
Space X is in the process of testing the crewed version of its Dragon space capsule that will be capable of ferrying humans to and from the International Space Station. The date for the first test with humans on board(initially scheduled for July) however, will need to be moved up, as the capsule suffered a failure during the activation of its engine abort SuperDraco thrusters and – Space X just confirmed – was destroyed.

Construction 3D printing startup COBOD International has been building a solid reputation for itself since it was founded as a spin-off of 3D Printhuset last September. Following a series of announcements, including the first EU tender for a construction 3D printer and new distributors for its BOD2 construction 3D printer, COBOD has announced the receipt of its second European tender.
