SLM Solutions opens new application center in Shanghai AM Industry

Just a couple of days ago SLM Solutions reported a Q1 financial performance below expectations, however, as is often the case in a young industry such as 3D printing, single quarter reports can be misleading. The company seems to be actually headed for further healthy growth as it inaugurated new expanded office facilities and application center for its Chinese HQ SLM Solutions Shanghai. After establishing Chinese operations in Shanghai in 2015, the new facility will strengthen SLM Solutions’ presence in China and allow local staff to collaborate with customers to foster selective laser melting innovation.

Impossible Objects and UAMMI test first 3D printed carbon fiber part for U.S. Air Force Industrial Additive Manufacturing

Composite 3D printing specialist Impossible Objects is not only introducing its latest 3D printer, the CBAM-2, today: the company has lifted the lid on an exciting collaboration with the Utah Advanced Materials & Manufacturing Initiative (UAMMI) focused on defense applications. Specifically, UAMMI has successfully fit-checked its first 3D printed carbon fiber part—made using an Impossible Objects printer—for the United States Air Force.

Inovus Medical adds SLS system from 3D Systems to produce laparoscopy simulators Medical

Inovus Medical has installed a new production level SLS 3D printer from 3D Systems in its manufacturing facility in St Helens, Merseyside. The laser sintering 3D printer enables the company to produce plastic parts with a finish level that rivals that of injection molding, without the expensive upfront cost of tooling and mold production. In addition, the laser sintering process that does not require support structures, thus increasing printer bed utilization and production capacity.

3D Systems announces general release date for Figure 4 Modular, new materials 3D Printer Hardware

3D Systems is preparing to commercially release its Figure 4 Modular digital manufacturing solution next month. The Figure 4 Modular is part of the company’s Figure 4 platform along with the Figure 4 Standalone and the Figure 4 Production. In addition to announcing the upcoming general release, 3D Systems is also preparing to introduce five new 3D printing materials.

Origin debuts Origin One 3D printer, partners with ECCO and BASF 3D Printer Hardware

Danish footwear brand ECCO Group is no stranger to innovation, as it has taken the advancement of 3D printing in stride with its footwear production. Most recently, the shoe manufacturer announced its alliance with BASF 3D Printing Solutions and Origin, a San Francisco-based startup known for its Open Additive Manufacturing technology. Through the partnership, ECCO will leverage the new Origin One 3D printer and BASF’s Ultracur3D photopolymer materials to transform footwear production at its R&D facility.
