It is a sad day for the 3D printing world, as BigRep reported that its founder, René Gurka, has passed away. The 3D printing visionary, who founded the German large-format 3D printer manufacturer in 2014, has left the additive industry too soon.
German chemical company Henkel has joined an R&D project called SYMPA in partnership with Rapid Shape GmbH, cirp GmbH and others. The project, which is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF1) and the Federal Ministry Republic of Austria Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT2), aims to develop new materials, printing methodologies and post-processing technologies for stereolithography products. The joint SYMPA project, which launched at the end of 2018, will specifically focus on developing durable SLA parts using DLP processes for the automotive industry.

The companies will work together to accelerate the adoption of additive manufacturing technologies in the oil and gas industry, leveraging their respective expertise to this end.

Most recently, the company raised $20 million in funding, which will enable it to scale its business and offering.

Bioprinting company CELLINK has announced it has entered into an agreement with life science company cytena GmbH to acquire all of the company’s shares for €30.25 million (roughly $33.87 million). It’s official, nScrypt’s BioFabrication Facility (BFF) bioprinter was launched into space yesterday aboard the SpaceX CRS-18 Cargo Mission. The bioprinting system is now on its way to the International Space Station (ISS), where it will ultimately be used to print adult human cells and adult tissue-derived proteins into tissue structures.
