3D printing service bureau Shapeways and global sciences company Royal DSM are partnering in order to develop “custom and industrially scalable 3D printing solutions” which leverage Shapeways’ proprietary technology and extensive knowledge of additive manufacturing and DSM’s high-performance materials portfolio.
In addition to announcing a partnership with United Launch Alliance to 3D print rocket components this week, Oerlikon AM has revealed an alliance with Hirtenberger Engineered Services, a specialist in post-processing metal printed parts. Through the partnership, the companies are striving to industrialize 3D printed parts for end-use and prototyping applications.
Stratasys-owned 3D printer manufacturer MakerBot this week launched the METHOD Materials Development Program, which brings together partners from across the additive industry to qualify filaments for its METHOD 3D printer platform. MakerBot has also debuted the new MakerBot LABS Experimental Extruder for the METHOD platform, which will unlock compatibility with a wider range of engineering-grade materials.

AM software developer Dyndrite Corporation has unveiled its Additive Manufacturing Toolkit (AMT) and accelerated production preparation build processor for 3D printing, which has the potential to improve performance and native CAD-to-print capabilities for AM users. Digital manufacturing company Carbon has announced the appointment of Ellen J. Kullman as its new President and CEO. Kullman, who previously served as Chairman and CEO of DuPont, will replace Dr. Joseph M. DeSimone, who will be taking on the role of Executive Chairman of the Board.
