VELO3D is expanding its 3D printing portfolio in a big way—literally. The California-based metal AM company has released the Sapphire XC 3D printer, which it describes as an “extra capacity” system with up to five times higher throughput compared to the original Sapphire system. The new large-format Sapphire XC also has the ability to reduce cost-per-part by up to 75%.
Zortrax, with the support of the European Space Agency (ESA)*, is working to develop a technology that enables 3D printing high-performance composite parts out of two blends of PEEK filament in dual extrusion on the Zortrax Endureal industrial 3D printer. After nearly a year of research and development efforts, the first prototype composite parts made out of standard PEEK and experimental electrically conductive PEEK, developed by ESA, have been successfully fabricated on the Zortrax machine.
Henkel and Carbon announced a new partnership agreement to bring Henkel’s Loctite adhesive technology into the additive manufacturing space. Carbon’s printers, notably its newer L1 3D model, will now be able to use Loctite materials. The new Loctite 3D IND 405 clear material is immediately available to customers. The partnership agreement will also give Carbon’s industrial clients access to Henkel’s single-component technologies, which may now be incorporated into Carbon’s digital light synthesis process (DLS).
Cyient and SR University entered an educational partnership that promotes an industry-oriented curriculum focused on advanced digital manufacturing systems. The partners, both based in India, aim to fill the skill gap between the need and availability of professionals in areas such as additive manufacturing. Spanish bioprinting company REGEMAT 3D opened a crowdfunding round through Crowdcube that attracted its minimum investment target in seven days. The company sought 300 000 euros to fund its international expansion. The funding round continues until it reaches three million euros, which the company hopes to achieve through its multiple sources funding action plan.
