Zortrax, a Polish 3D printer and materials manufacturer, has introduced its latest post-processing device which removes visible layering from FDM 3D prints.
The Zortrax Apoller Smart Vapor Smoothing (SVS) device, which will be unveiled at Formnext 2018, is a desktop system utilizing acetone and MEK solvents on 3D models.

With a smoothing chamber measuring 300 x 250 x 250mm, the Zortrax Apoller creates a glossy or matte finish to achieve the appearance of injection-molded parts. The device uses a dual condensation process and a 300ml bottle of solvent which can be used for smoothing multiple prints.
The smoothing chamber remains closed until the solvents are contained in their tanks, to ensure safety for its user. In addition, the chamber remains sealed during power outages and will automatically decontaminate when the power source returns to the device.
“This efficiency means that the combined weekly output of four typical FDM 3D printers can be automatically smoothed within one day without loss of quality,” stated Zortrax. Furthermore, the Zortrax Apoller features an intuitive touch interface and proprietary algorithms to manage the smoothing process.
Earlier this year, Zortrax released the M200 Plus 3D printer, an upgrade of the award-winning M200 model. At the time, Marcin Niedzielski, PR Manager at Zortrax explained, “The market has evolved from 2014 and we decided that our flagship machine also needs to evolve and meet the expectations of today’s customers.[Thus] we deliver the printer, filaments and software and you don’t have to worry about anything.”
Zortrax also introduced a new range of Plus materials for increased resilience, flexibility and post-processing convenience. Following this, Zortrax released its first 3D printer using vat polymerization technology, the Inkspire.
