ARC Group Worldwide (NASDAQ: ARCW), a global manufacturing provider focused on precision components, flanges, fittings and wireless technology has recently formed a new division focused entirely on 3D printing. The new subsidiary, 3D Materials Technology, LLC (3DMT), will use ARC Group’s previous experience in 3D printing to perform rapid prototyping, short run manufacturing and tooling to enhance lead times for its customers.
Due to its parent company’s history with Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), and Stereolithography (SLA) processes it is hoped that the subsidiary will benefit the growing 3DP market, with ARC CEO, Jason Young, saying, “We are excited to launch 3D Material Technologies. 3D printing is complementary to our core manufacturing capabilities. As such, we believe 3DMT is well positioned to significantly grow in this market segment, while responding to our customer’s needs in reducing development cycle time. We are excited about building this effort and providing new products and services to our customers.”
3DMT is just one of many subsidiaries owned by the world’s largest injection moulding supplier, which also consist of FloMet, AFT, Injectamax, TeknaSeal, General Flange, and Arc Wireless, but this new division represents the faith that a, previously, more traditional manufacturer has in the emerging technology. The news of this division comes on the heels of the appointment of Todd Grimm as Independent Director to the Company’s Board of Directors. According to the company, “From 1990 to 2002, Todd held various positions in additive manufacturing service bureaus. He serves on the board of directors of the Additive Manufacturing Users Group (AMUG) and has recently been appointed as a founding board member of the Association.”
