Mainstream brands are finally jumping onto the 3D printing brandwagon. Launzer.com just announced that Warner Bros. and ITV Studios will be mutating their famous characters, like Batman and the Looney Tunes, into 3D printed form. On top of the Finnish firm’s news, Toyze, an app-based marketplace for customizable video game characters, has signed a licensing agreement with game publisher Game Insight for properties from three of the company’s mobile games: The Tribez, Dragon Eternity, and Mirrors of Albion.
Toyze had previously released customizable and 3D printable characters from apps like Cut the Rope and Talking Tom Cat. The new agreement greatly expands the app marketplace’s position in the world of 3D printable branding. With Tribez, Dragon Eternity, and Mirrors of Albion, the company now offers even more popular mobile game characters, and more realistic ones at that. The first game that will see its properties in the Toyze app, available at the App Store and on Google Play, is The Tribez, which has 24 million players worldwide and is often ranked as one of the top 10 grossing games in over 100 countries.
Toyze Inks Deal to 3D Print The Tribez and More
Players of The Tribez are forced to confront their primal past by establishing and maintaining a settlement of villagers while they face the struggles of neolithic existence. Users can already download Toyze and customize all seven tribesmen and women (workers, settlers, magicians, etc.) as 3D models, giving them a variety of accessories (stick, hat, hammer, purse, and lamp) and configuring them into a number of poses. Then, users can share them via social media or have them 3D printed, in sizes up to eight inches tall, and have them delivered to their doorstep.
Toyze CEO Vilius Rinkunas says of the new licensing agreement, “Game Insight is one of the most successful players in the international mobile gaming industry and we are thrilled to give their fans the ability to bring their legendary characters to life as sharable 3D models and toys. Our customers have already created more than 500,000 3D models and we will continue announcing more game developer partnerships as well as characters in the coming weeks and months.”
This is just one more step for the 3D printing app. I believe that there are likely many more such partners to come. Soon, all manner of brands will find themselves making similar agreements and the world will be populated with 3D prints of big names, from Warner Bros. to Marvel to just about any character you can imagine.
