The Texas Military Department (TMD) has opened its new, 2,600+ square foot 3D printed Training and Innovation Center at Camp Mabry. The Innovation Center will be part of TMD’s Joint Force Headquarters and will enable collaboration and planning with TMD and external partners on future innovation and modernization efforts. Over the past few months, TMD Service Members, along with 3D construction printing company ICON, designed and constructed the 3D printed Innovation Center.
Manufacturing on Demand
Located in the Camp Mabry Historic District, the Innovation Center is replacing temporary buildings that have far exceeded their 10-year lifespan – significantly increasing the space’s energy efficiency while providing a more modern and useful facility. The center was completed in 2024 with traditional construction finish-outs supported by troop labor from TMD Soldiers and Airmen. This integration provides unique training opportunities for servicemembers and allows them to utilize state-of-the-art construction methods.
This building is the first 3D printed structure to receive approval from a historical commission – a testament to its unique integration of cutting-edge technology.
