Sciaky, Inc., based in Chicago, has won the President’s “E” Award.
A U.S. subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries, Inc. (PSI), Sciaky is the manufacturer of the EBAM metal 3D printing system.
Bob Phillips, Vice President of Sciaky, Inc. said, “Sciaky is honored to receive this prestigious award from the U.S. Department of Commerce. We are proud to be an American company that exports innovative technology all across the world.”
The “E” Award was first created by an Executive Order of the President in 1961. It is awarded to, “persons, firms, or organizations that contribute significantly in the effort to increase United States exports, with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and work of broad impact.”
Winners of the award can “display a blue and white banner, issue employees an “E” or “E Star” lapel pin, and to refer to the award in their advertising”.
Growing international trade in 3D printing systems
Earlier this year Sciaky announced their first order for an EBAM system from a customer located in the Asia-Pacific region. The order is due for delivery in January 2018.
Existing customers include Airbus who have used Sciaky’s metal 3D printing systems to make parts including a titanium spar part which forms the main skeletal structure of a wing.
Sciaky’s EBAM additive manufacturing system can be used to 3D print components anywhere from 8 inches (203 mm) to 19 feet (5.79 meters) in length.
The EBAM system has a gross deposition rate that ranges between seven to 20 lbs. (3.18 to 9.07 kg) of metal per hour. In comparison Norsk Titanium – who use Rapid Plasma Deposition – has a deposition rate of 5-10 KG/hour.
Sciaky’s EBAM system also feature a closed-loop control module, Interlayer Real-time Imaging and Sensing System. IRISS is a “real-time monitoring and control system in the metal 3D printing market that can sense and digitally self-adjust metal deposition with precision and repeatability.”
The award ceremony took place during the U.S. Manufacturers to Europe & Beyond Conference on September 19, 2017 in Cleveland, OH.
