SCI brings 3DCP to Ohio Construction 3D Printing

Sustainable Concrete Innovations (SCI), a home building company catering to the state of Ohio, USA, has partnered with CyBe Construction, a 3D construction printing (3DCP) technology company from The Netherlands, to provide the region with access to 3DCP – creating affordable housing and expand homeownership opportunities. After establishing operations in Ohio and investing in the CyBe RC 3D concrete printer, the company plans to extend into neighboring states like Michigan and Indiana.

SCI partners with builders to integrate 3D printed wall elements into existing construction systems. This approach reduces labor and material costs, minimizes waste, and accelerates building timelines. For instance, a 10-by-10-foot wall can be constructed in just one hour. Recently, SCI completed all 17 wall elements of a 1,300-square-foot home in eight working days, with a total printing time of twenty hours.

Intending to ensure that affordable homes benefit first-time buyers rather than investors, SCI offers the homes at market rates but provides financing options. “If you need a certain number of housing units to meet demand, but you produce fewer, people will pay a premium. So, how do we bring costs down for everyone? We make sure the supply exceeds demand. That’s Economics 101,” said John Smoll, COO of SCI, which offers company-driven down payments as forgivable loans to assist buyers.

Beyond affordability, 3D concrete printing uses less material and generates less waste – contributing to net-zero emissions. The construction process is environmentally friendly due to the use of cost-effective shapes and skipping redundant steps – further reducing indirect costs.

Earlier this year, SCI completed ‘Project Zero,’ a 1,600-square-foot show home in Wapakoneta, Ohio, available for bookings to let people experience a 3D-printed home firsthand. They’ve invested in the CyBe RC 3D concrete printer from CyBe Construction, a company with a century of construction expertise and a decade in 3D concrete printing.
