3D Systems continues its bid to expand sales channels and penetrate new markets with its most recent partnership announcement. The 3D printing company has agreed a deal with ScanSource, Inc. a leading international value-added distributor of specialty technology products, whereby ScanSource will develop a team dedicated to the sale and support of 3D printing solutions.
According to ScanSource this is all about timing and the time is now. The company’s CEO, Mike Baur, stated: “ScanSource has been evaluating the 3D market for quite some time. As the technology and solutions become attractive to a broader end-user customer base and a reseller channel begins to develop, we found the timing to be right and the market to be ready for value-added distribution. As with all of our business offerings, the products and associated services must be a fit with our business model in that the solution needs the value-added services and support that resellers rely on from ScanSource. We look forward to delivering 3D printing solutions to our resellers and are excited to have 3D Systems as a partner, as they are a leader in the market.”
There is no mention of which specific 3D Systems’ products ScanSource will be adding value to, but this will be a drive into industrial markets likely for prototyping and manufacturing applications, where after sales service, support and warranties that go to make up the added value offering are of importance.
3D Systems’ President and CEO, Avi Reichental, is pleased with the direction that this deal is taking the company, saying: “We are thrilled to partner with a distributor of the caliber, size and demonstrated performance of ScanSource. ScanSource brings scalable field coverage together with a unique model of training expertise and experienced field resources that support its growing reseller network, substantially expanding our addressable markets and access to new use cases.”
ScanSource will be offering value-added 3D printing solutions in the United States immediately.
