Makers in London had reason to celebrate last week during the launch party of Makers|CAFE, which featured live music, free drinks and 3D printers in action. The new 3D printing themed cafe is a venture undertaken by UK based laser cutting specialists RazorLAB. RazorLAB is a laser cutting and engraving service provider with experience under their belt — founded in 2006 the company has worked with high-end clients like Apple, O2 and Selfridges. Now at Makers|CAFEdesigners, creatives and makers can directly access 3D printing whilst enjoying a coffee and the muse of a creative environment.
Makers|CAFE Founder and Director, Soner Ozenc told the International Business Times: “Makerscafe is half cafe, half makerspace, where people can grab a coffee, sit at our tables, discuss projects and come up with a brilliant idea. They turn to us, show us their ideas or designs and we can turn them into physical objects by using laser cutting or 3D printing.”
Soner believes that there is a lot happening with 3D printing at this time, but that the majority of it is in the media: TV, newspapers and so on, but not so much at the street level. This is where Soner says that his cafe-centric business will come into its own. Makers|CAFE thus aims to offer an informal introduction to 3D printing and laser cutting technologies that customers can then go back home and upload their designs to the Makers|CAFE internet site.
The staff are there to help anyone from a complete novice to a professional with their ideas, designs and prints. By helping out with ideas, that means customers have the opportunity to walk in with their hand-draw sketch and walk out with a 3D print. Computer Aided Design programs, three dimensional scanning, laser cutting and a range of 3D printers are all there at the users disposal. This could be a huge boon to all kinds of professions and people in the local area and beyond.
Makers|CAFE is located in the eye catching Old Shoreditch Station, 1 Kingsland Road, London, E2 8DA.
