Cupcake Critters
In preparation for the release of the new game, Cupcakes and Critters, Autodesk is hosting a contest for Tinkercad users to create their own Cuppy characters with the tag “#Cuppy”. Winners with the best 3D printable cupcake figures may see their Cuppy in the upcoming game.
MakerBot Extends Distribution in Australia
MakerBot has partnered with Alloys Australia to extend the reach of its 3D printing and scanning products in the region. In addition to selling their suite of goods, Alloy will also be hosting MakerBot 3D Ecosystem showcases in various cities through the country throughout the month of March.
Irina Pantaeva is 3D Scanned and Printed
At NYC Fashion Week 2015, model, actress, filmmaker, author, and activist Irina Pantaeva appeared for the “Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection” event, dawning a red gown to broaden awareness about women and heart disease. Local 3D scanning and printing firm Mini 3D Me was commissioned to create a replica of the star.
Materialse Adds Aluminum to its Materials Portfolio
3D printing service bureau and software developer Materialise announced this week the addition of AlSi10Mg to its materials portfolio. The aluminum alloy offers such characteristics as low weight, good strength and thermal properties, and various post-processing options that make it ideal for ductwork, engine parts, casings, production tools, and molds.
3Dponics Launches 3Dcreative.ly Modeling Tool
3Dponics, developers of 3D printable hydroponics systems, is developing a new 3D modeling tool called 3Dcreative.ly, a simple software for modifying existing 3D models or creating new ones with a library of primitives. The tool is an extension of the company’s existing 3Dponics Customizer, for making objects for one’s indoor garden.
Optomec Partnership
Albuquerque-based manufacturer of metal 3D printers Optomec signed an agreement with Dutch manufacturing service and sales company Landre. This will see Optomec’s LENS 3D printing systems – capable of printing titanium, stainless steel, and super alloys – sold in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg, giving Optomec a foothold in Europe, where the majority of the world’s metal 3D printer manufacturers currently dominate.
