San Francisco-based maker marketplace Darby Smart has announced that the launch of its new printables section will coincide with the launch of the new Apple iPhone, with a range of personalised, designer 3D-printed iPhone cases. Darby Smart is an online marketplace that allows leading designers to launch simple Do It Yourself projects based on the latest fashion and home trends.
Recently, 3DPI’s Mike covered the new range of 3D printed iPhone cases from Fraemes, a MakerBot Developer Program enhanced marketplace for designers and customers to meet and create a wide range of custom iPhone cases. The past two years has seen a growth in the number of companies producing similar, niche custom designed smartphone cases.
As product ubiquity increases, the market for personalised statements of identity has also increased: from early adoption by industry giants 3D Systems to crowd-funded makers and start-ups producing a wide range of alternatives, even including these cool glow-in-the-dark mecha cases.
The iPhone 6 launch will be available on the live-stream at the Apple events website. Access to the website is open to all, although the iPhone 6 launch live stream will probably only be available to existing Apple users: if you have an iDevice or Mac you can view the live video. The iPhone 6 launch event will begin at 6pm UK time next Tuesday.
