Tangible Solutions, a company that solves industry problems using 3D printing (aka additive manufacturing) technologies, is expanding thanks to a loan from the city of Fairborn Ohio. Tangible Solutions currently operate with a close-knit team of eleven people, but due to their success they often have to outsource work to external contractors. But with the $500,000 loan the company plan to bring more tasks in-house, and aspires to add more than 50 employees to their payroll over the next 3 years. The money they received is due to be paid back in five years’ time.

Metal 3D printing, specifically DMLS, is one of Tangible’s specialist areas. The technique is used for new-product development, rapid prototyping and actual manufacturing of products and components. The company also have expertise in injection molding and biomedical instrumentation.

Adam Clark, Tangible’s vice president of business development, explained how the move is based on the potential uses they see for additive manufacturing in the area, a decision influenced no doubt by Fairborn’s proximity to the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

For the city itself, the loan seeks to add an edge to their industrial development, as economic development director for Fairborn Rob Anderson told the Dayton Business Journal: “[Tangible Solutions] have got a good book of business right now […] It’s hard not to feel their excitement and buy into what they are doing. This is different for us, a new technology where we’d be one of the first large scale operations in the region. It would set us apart in Fairborn and as a region.”

Tangible was started ‘in a garage by a couple of friends’ as reported by 3DPI in August of 2014. In the last report, the company were just setting up their first formal office in Beavercreek Ohio – a significant contrast to where they are today.
