Shapeways, a New York-headquartered 3D printing marketplace, has partnered with e-commerce website Etsy to provide shop owners with a direct channel to manage orders from Shapeways.
Etsy has hosted many small businesses who are also Shapeways customers seeking to reach a wider audience with their products. As a result of feedback from both communities, the Etsy E-commerce Integration was developed to optimize and sync the creation and distribution of 3D printed items and parts. In a statement on the deal Greg Kress, CEO of Shapeways, said:
“Small business owners are already juggling multiple hats, and we are excited to help make Etsy Shop Owners’ lives easier by enabling them to seamlessly grow their businesses and helping current Shapeways’ customers not currently on the platform expand their customer base by offering a new place for them to sell their designs.”

Shapeways and Etsy
Shapeways offers a range of on-demand additive manufacturing services including EOS’ Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Stratasys’ full-color, multi-material 3D printing, Carbon’s Digital Light Synthesis (DLS), and Multi-jet fusion technology from HP. This has enabled a variety of products from consumer to medical to be produced.
“All of Shapeways’ materials are used by Etsy store owners, including materials such as steel, PA11 and platinum,” Kress told Industry. “A fantastic benefit of the Etsy e-commerce Integration is that all store owners have access to sell any of Shapeways’ materials, including maker materials; TPU and PH PA12GB.”
“From housewares to jewelry to gaming accessories, Etsy creators use Shapeways to create anything. With Shapeways’ diverse portfolio of materials, shop owners can create nearly anything they can think of.”
What this means for makers
The new Etsy E-commerce Integration allows new and existing shop owners to automatically push their orders to Shapeways and then ship directly to customers or to their location at no initial cost. This channel can be accessed and set up on Shapeways’ E-commerce Integration page.
“Etsy is one of the easiest ways to open a small business and offers an incredibly large market of ready to buy customers,” said Ola Shektman, Creator and Designer of Cityscapes Rings on Etsy.
“Before the Etsy E-commerce Integration, it took 5-6 minutes to place an order for my Etsy customers. This integration is magic, orders are placed automatically so I can spend more of my time working on new ideas and designs.”
According to Kress, Shapeways ships to over 130 countries. “The Etsy E-commerce Integration will allow for orders to be directly fulfilled to any of those countries. Shop owners also have the option to have orders fulfilled directly to themselves to send out to anywhere in the world.”
