According to a regulatory filing by the company, the drone maker has raised $26,699,526 out of a target of $45M, in a round which kicked off on May 21st. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>The company was founded in 2009 by Chris anderson and Jordi Munoz in San Diego. It moved one year ago its headquarter to Berkeley. Earlier this year the company went through a significant restructuring aimed at moving more quickly into the commercial market, due to heavy competition in the consumer drone market. During the restructuring the company laid off some of its employees and reshuffled its management roles, with Anderson focusing on the external and strategic side of the business. Jeevan Kalanithi, 3DR\u2019s chief product officer, was named president. The company\u2019s former president, co-founder Jordi Munoz, left the company last year as part of the ramping down of 3DR\u2019s operations in San Diego. The company moved its manufacturing from Tijuana to China and outsourced its warehousing operations.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3D Robotics has now 100 employees. It\u2019s one of the best well funded drone startup. It raised a $5M series A round in late 2012 led by True Ventures and including O\u2019Reilly Alpha Tech Ventures, followed by a $30M series B round led by Foundry Group, and including True Ventures, O\u2019Reilly Alpha Tech Ventures and SK Ventures. In 2015, the company added $50M with a series C round led by West Summit Capital and including Qualcomm, Mayfield Fund, Foundry, O\u2019Reilly Alpha Tech Ventures and True Ventures. If 3D Robotics managed to close the on going $45M current round, the company will have raised $145M since 2009. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-81543 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/drone.png\" alt=\"drone\" width=\"660\" height=\"660\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/drone.png 660w, https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/drone-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/drone-200x200.png 200w, https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/drone-500x500.png 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Competition is hot in the consumer drone market with China based DJI being a clear leader with its cheaper drones such like the Phantom 4, a smart drone with many sensors, priced at $1,399. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parrot<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the French drone manufacturer recently reported also its difficulty to grow its sales in the consumer drone market. Parrot, which is listed on Euronext Paris, raised \u20ac 300M in the first quarter 2016.
