The basis of the method is as follows;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">A plate of metal, typically nickel, and a mandrel or &#8220;master surface&#8221; are placed in an electrolytic bath.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">The electrolytic charge causes nickel particles to create layers on the master surface.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Once the desired thickness is achieved, the nickel can the then be extracted from the mandrel, leaving a part that is a negative image of its surface.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<figure id=\"attachment_110419\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-110419 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/shimifrez-micro-flat-rotor-1024x474.jpg\" alt=\"A flat rotor produced with electro forming. The method can be used either to make simple shapes, or more complex patterns.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>More jobs in Ontario <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The investment in Shimifrez is part of Canada Makes&#8217; Metal Additive Demonstration Program; <em>&#8220;designed to help Canadian industries increase awareness and assist in understanding the advantages of the metal additive manufacturing (AM) technology&#8221;.<\/em> Initiative partners include Canadian branches of Renishaw and EOS. The product of one of the company&#8217;s partnerships also helped send a 3D printed satellite part into space.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Photo electro forming of copper parts is performed at Shimifrez&#8217;s site in Vaughan, Ontario.
