Image via Luxexcel.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Equity funding<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Luxexcel received investment from KLA-Tencor Corporation in California, as well as continued investment from SET Ventures in the Netherlands<em>, <\/em>German based Munich Venture Partners and the Flemish regional investment fund PMV.<\/p>\n<p>CEO of Luxexcel, Hans Streng, spoke regarding the investment,<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>This investment by a group of renowned investors combined with the strategic cooperation with KLA-Tencor is of key importance to our business development. Photo via Luxexcel.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>3D printing platform<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Receiving approval from the ISO was an important milestone from Luxexcel and now with this investment the company can begin shipping the 3D printing platform later in 2017. Luxexcel&#8217;s 3D printing platform includes industrial grade 3D printers, the lens design software and workflow integration tools. Photo via Luxexcel.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Future of lenses<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CEO Hans Streng explains the importance of the funding to move the company forward, &#8220;<em>we have experienced an exponentially increasing interest and market pull both from the ophthalmic market as well as related industries such as Virtual and Augmented Reality<\/em>.&#8221; Streng also stating that,<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The cooperation with KLA-Tencor and its global track record in the semiconductor-tooling industry gives a major boost to our smart-glasses roadmap. We are now ready to scale up, deliver and disrupt\u2026exciting times.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As mentioned by Streng, the ability to 3D print transparent lenses opens up new applications with the creation of different lens shapes. This is something  Industry has seen recently with <a href=\"https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/news\/advances-3d-printing-fused-silica-glass-researchers-demonstrate-microstereolithography-technique-111223\/\">research from Germany into the 3D printing of glass<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Also, US research facility Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has developed a new method for creating 3D printed glass structures.
