Also the company increased headcount by 244, employing a total of 4,530 people by year end.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Renishaw reports adjusted profit before tax for the year of \u00a3109.1m, an increase of 25% compared to \u00a387.5m in 2016. Total revenue was \u00a3536.8m, a 25.7% increase.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_119295\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-119295\" src=\"https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Renishaw-group-segmented-revenue-highlights.--1024x616.png\" alt=\"Renishaw group segmented revenue highlights.\" width=\"1024\" height=\"616\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Renishaw-group-segmented-revenue-highlights.--1024x616.png 1024w, https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Renishaw-group-segmented-revenue-highlights.--770x463.png 770w, https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Renishaw-group-segmented-revenue-highlights.--200x120.png 200w, https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Renishaw-group-segmented-revenue-highlights.--500x301.png 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Renishaw group segmented revenue highlights.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><b>Long-term outlook positive<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During a 55 minute call with investors and analysts Sir David R McMurtry, Chairman and Chief Executive, gave further information on the numbers.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe have experienced strong growth in 2017 and whilst noting ongoing uncertainty surrounding Brexit and currency exchange rate volatility, your directors remain confident in the long-term prospects for the Group and at this early stage in the year anticipate growth in both revenue and profits in the current financial year.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Renishaw manages its operations in two segments, comprising metrology and healthcare products. Photo by Michael Petch<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><b>\u201cPlenty of room\u201d in the additive manufacturing industry<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">William Lee, Group Sales and Marketing Director, explained during today\u2019s investor call that AM has a very positive outlook. Responding to a question as to whether high growth in AM is coming to an end Lee said, \u201c the short answer is no, the growth is not ending. This is a very high cap-ex business for us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sir McMurtry explained that in the AM sector there is, \u201cPlenty of room for us, and plenty of room for others.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAM will not be for everything. But AM is essential for somethings in the aerospace and medical sectors.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A planned strategic review of healthcare will include restructuring to give more focus to AM side of Renishaw\u2019s business. This involves getting more efficiency into the dental and maxillofacial business units. Costs of approximately \u00a31 million costs are included for restructuring.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Questions about how much of Renishaw&#8217;s double digit growth relates to new products were also answered. The company explained that disruptive technology &#8211; for example industrial 3D printing &#8211; also takes more time to come through as this is a step-change where customers need to make changes to their business. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The company reiterated the point that there must be a performance benefit for the part to be made using additive manufacturing. Renishaw has been particularly active in leading and educating users about the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Design for Additive Manufacturing mindset<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
