Photo via Proto Labs.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><b>Increased need for on-demand manufacturing<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u20ac4 million investment will be spent primarily at the company\u2019s site in Telford, UK. As Proto Labs explain the investment is in response to an increase in demand for their services. Recently Proto Labs has announced capital expenditure and investment in Haas CNC machines and ARBURG injection moulding machines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lee Ball Proto Labs General Manager in the UK explains, \u201cProto Labs offers a supremely fast and reliable service.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBecause customers today across all industries require fast turnaround, especially in product development. Our continuous investment allows us to meet the ever growing needs of our thousands of customers across all industries.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The recent purchase of machinery brings the UK total\u2019s to 130 CNC machining and 57 injection moulding machines. Ball says, \u201cWe are seeing demand for moulded parts increase across the board year-over-year, from both longstanding and new customers, for a range of products and industries. To meet predicted levels of growth, a critical leverage is this investment in new technology.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Expanding applications for 3D printing<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a previous call with investors <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vicki Holt, Proto Labs\u2019 President and CEO, explained<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> how some customers were switching from subtractive manufacturing techniques, such as CNC, to additive manufacturing.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_105422\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-105422\" src=\"https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Proto-Labs-CEO-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Vicki Holt, President and Chief Executive Officer.\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Proto-Labs-CEO.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Proto-Labs-CEO-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Proto-Labs-CEO-770x513.jpg 770w, https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Proto-Labs-CEO-200x133.jpg 200w, https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Proto-Labs-CEO-500x333.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Vicki Holt, President and Chief Executive Officer.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The increase in capacity is necessary to meet an increase in orders. According to Daniel Cohn, Managing Director of the 3D printing business Proto Labs GmbH in Feldkirchen, Germany this is coming from, \u201cmore customers, across varied industry sectors, now realising the extensive possibilities to prototype parts with complex geometries cost-effectively using 3D printing technology. For certain parts, the only possible option is to manufacture using this technology.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cohn gives further information saying, \u201cFor example, our Eschenlohe facility is certified with EN ISO 13485:2012 quality management standards. For customers, they benefit from our technical capabilities to manufacture specific medical devices using 3D printing DMLS technology, including parts approved for human implantation.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As well as adding new machinery, Proto Labs are also planning to increase the size of their premises. \u201cAdditional space will be required within the next 18 to 24 months to accommodate our projected level of growth, both to our office space and manufacturing capacity,\u201d explains Ball.
