The spaces in the coating allowed air passing through the Airbus A320neo\u2019s turbine system to escape, causing dramatic changes in gas exhaust temperature.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>While the LEAP contains 19 3D-printed fuel nozzles, these static turbine shrouds are made in a different manner from ceramic matrix composites.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Although GE is responsible for delivering turbine parts to CFM produced engines, Safran has set aside $58 million to repair in-service engines \u201cto err on the side of caution,\u201d according to Safran CEO Philippe Petitcolin. <\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_123847\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-123847\" src=\"https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/leap-engine.jpg\" alt=\"The Leap-IA engine has faced problems. Photo via Safran.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Belgian OEM Materialise has opened both a new 5,500 m\u00b2 headquarters in Leuven as well as a new production facility in Wroclaw, Poland, which has capacity for over 80 SLS printers.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\"><br \/>\nUniZ, the start-up behind the successful <span class=\"s2\">SLASH SLA 3D printer<\/span> nominees on the  Industry Awards <a href=\"https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/news\/3d-printing-industry-awards-2017-wildcard-voting-update-110588\/\">&#8220;startup of the year&#8221; shortlist<\/a> <\/span><span class=\"s1\">has raised over $6 million from investors Beijing DeLian Express Investment Management and Cheng Congwu. Commenting on the deal, DeLian Express\u2019 Xiao Ran expressed his confidence in UniZ\u2019s \u201ccore technology,\u201d its \u201cintelligent manufacturing,\u201d and its move towards \u201cindustrial 4.0.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Niedersachsen ADDITIV<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, a \u20ac1.2 million additive manufacturing education facility in Hanover, Lower Saxony, has been opened by state government minister Olaf Lies. Photo via IHT.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><b>A boost for microfluidic accuracy and wireless communications range<\/b><\/p>\n<p>In a new paper from MIT, researchers demonstrate a 3D printed device for making nanofiber meshes suitable for use in advanced filtration systems, and as scaffolds in tissue engineering. With minute channels, the equipment is essentially a microfluidic device, that can be unconvetionally produced without the need for a cleanroom.<\/p>\n<p>According to the paper\u2019s lead author Luis Fernando Vel\u00e1squez-Garc\u00eda, 3D printing the device means that, &#8220;in the next few years, nobody is going to be doing microfluidics in the clean room. There\u2019s no reason to do so. 3D printing is a technology that can do it so much better \u2014 with better choice of materials, with the possibility to really make the structure that you would like to make.&#8221; The full study is available to read online here.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, at Ohio State University\u2019s ElectroScience Laboratory, researchers have been awarded a $300,000 National Science Foundation (NSF) grant for the development of their 3D printing facilitated antennas, which will reach beyond the overcrowded microwave frequency of common devices.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Big product announcements from atum3D and Sharebot ahead of Formnext 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">atum3D has announced that it will be launching three new products at Formnext 2017. The first product is the DLP Station 5, a new Digital Light Processing 3D printer with an open resin platform. The second product, to tie in with the first is the \u201cOperator Station\u201d software, which applies MAGS AI technology to model preparation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The final product is a new range of \u201cExcellence Packs\u201d. The Antares has a build volume of 250 x 250 x 250 mm and is compatible with the PR-S resin as well as a number of slicing softwares. The Antares is connected to the internet and can be remotely managed. Sharebot will be exhibiting at stand 3.1-A48 14-17 November. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>3D Hubs on board, and the elephant in the room <\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Jack Davies, a British product design student at Nottingham Trent University and intern at 3D Hubs has designed an electric longboard using <span class=\"s2\">HP\u2019s Multi Jet Fusion<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s3\"> technology and <span class=\"s4\">Autodesk<\/span> CAD software. The \u201cFusion E-board\u201d took less than a week to build, and its electronics enclosures and its motor mounts were 3D printed at a cost of \u20ac550.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>3D Hubs also recently released their most recent trends report. The data shows a number of interesting trends including the fact that London has now overtaken New York are the region with the most number of active 3D printing hubs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rkgamiwQ3d4?rel=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elephant protection charity Space for Giants is raising money for its work in Africa through two unique events. Tonight at the Brooklyn Bowl, New York City, the charity is hosting the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stampede of Sound<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> concert with live music and a 1 meter tall 3D printed elephant made by a collaboration with MyMiniFactory and iMakr.
