For the recent project, the company test printed novelty wine aerators and a metal frame for in-flight entertainment (IEF) screens, using an Arcam\u2019s 3D EBM printer. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The EBM technology melts and fuses metal powder or metal wire using an electron beam. Titanium alloys are one of the most common materials used in this method.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Vwegg2ypHeE\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since 2016, Air New Zealand has utilized 3D printing technology for part supplies and replacement. In 2017, at the Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UAE\u2019s Etihad Airways\u2019 3D printed airplane interior<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was displayed. The airline switched from traditional manufacturing of parts to on-demand 3D printing and saved significant costs by eliminating the need to store huge stocks of spare parts in a warehouse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nevertheless, 3D printing offers more than aircraft interior supplies. Last year, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Airbus<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in collaboration with the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chemnitz University of Technology<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Germany, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3D printed a metal spoiler actuator<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for its A380 aircraft. The part is 35% lighter than manufactured by traditional milling process and has an improved design.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More design efficient and cost-effective solutions are in line for the aerospace industry. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Autodesk<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> designer Andreas Bastian came up with a novel method to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3D print airplane seats<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which are 56% lighter than traditional aluminum made seats.
