The Rexroth controls are also an excellent platform for providing our 3D printers with full connectivity for existing production and automation systems. Photo by Michael Petch.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><b>Large-format smart factory solutions<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Following a materials partnership with BASF<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, BigRep has further established the ideal conditions for large-scale industrial additive manufacturing as its range of 3D printers will be equipped with full connectivity and data processing capabilities<strong>.<\/strong> Bosch Rexroth, who previously <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">redesigned a range of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3D printed servo valves<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for TRUMPF<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, will use its expertise in drive and control technologies to enable faster and more cost-efficient additive manufacturing for models, prototypes, tools and end-use products.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This collaboration ultimately intends to create 3D printers for use in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">smart factories<\/span> &#8211; incorporating IoT and end to end digital monitoring of machines.<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Thomas Fechner, Director of the Business Unit New Business at Bosch Rexroth explained:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;This partnership demonstrates that Bosch Rexroth is constantly developing sustainable technologies and new factory automation solutions for the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Factory of the Future<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_140778\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-140778\" src=\"https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/DSC08542-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"3D printed and metal plated fuel tanks. Photo via BigRep.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><b>Additive and subtractive combine<\/b><\/p>\n<p>In the industrialization of additive manufacturing, a number of developers are keen to combine the technology with more traditional, subtractive techniques.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earlier this month, at the 2018 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">International Manufacturing Technology Show<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (IMTS) in Chicago, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3D Systems<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GF Machining Solutions<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">unveiled the DMP Factory 500<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an industrial, automated metal 3D printing system. This system also integrated subtractive manufacturing features, such as Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) \u2013 a process that uses the erosive effect of electrical bursts to shape metals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prior to this, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Materialise<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HCL Technologies<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> entered a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new hybrid manufacturing partnership<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to develop a software platform for the increased production of high-grade metal parts.
